Every Booster, and When to Actually Use It
The Repair Kit, Armor Plate, Fire Power and both shields — and the fights each is actually for.
The Repair Kit
The Repair Kit heals you on the spot. It is the simplest booster and the one people overuse, because it is the one that feels urgent — you are low, so you press the button that makes you not low.
The problem is that a Repair Kit does not change the fight. It buys you time in a fight you were already losing, and if the reason you were losing is that you are not making enough matches, the extra health just means you lose more slowly.
Use it when you are genuinely close to finishing — when the enemy is nearly down and you need one more exchange. Not as a panic button halfway through a boss fight.
The Armor Plate
The Armor Plate halves the damage you take for thirty seconds. It is the best value booster in the game and the one most players underrate.
The reason is arithmetic: thirty seconds of halved damage is worth far more than one bar of healing, because it applies to every hit that lands during those thirty seconds rather than once. Against a commander who hits hard and often, it is worth several Repair Kits.
Press it early. The thirty seconds you want it for is the opening of the fight, when the enemy is at full strength and you are still reading the board.
Fire Power
Fire Power doubles the damage you deal for fifteen seconds. It does nothing on its own — you have to spend those fifteen seconds actually making matches, and big ones.
This is the booster that rewards setup. Pop it immediately before a cascade, or with an Overload Charge already lined up, and it is the largest burst the game allows. Pop it and then start looking for a match and you have wasted it entirely.
It is the wrong booster for long, grinding fights like Blight or Goliath, and the right booster for a fight you are trying to end quickly.
The Blue Shield and the Gold Shield
The two shields each wrap you in a bubble that soaks enemy fire before it lands. The Gold Shield soaks far more than the Blue one and costs accordingly — they are genuinely different purchases rather than the same item at two sizes.
A shield is best used in the fights with the highest incoming damage, which in practice means Void and Goliath. It is less useful in the early maps, where the damage you are taking is small enough that a shield absorbs very little.
If you are choosing between a shield and an Armor Plate for a specific fight, the Armor Plate is usually the better buy — it scales with however much damage arrives in thirty seconds, whereas a shield is a fixed amount. The Gold Shield is the exception: against the last two commanders, its capacity is high enough that it beats the plate outright.
How to buy them
Every booster can be bought with coins you earned by playing, and the daily coin drop in the store is free. Coin packs are a shortcut, not a requirement — nothing in the forty-level campaign needs a purchase to finish.
The efficient habit is to bank coins through a map, then spend them in a batch before the commander rather than buying boosters reactively mid-fight. Buying under pressure is how you end up with three Repair Kits and no Armor Plate.
