How to Beat BLIGHT — Chocolate Forest Boss Guide

The first commander who punishes you for playing safe. Cascades or nothing.

The fight

BLIGHT is the eighth level of Chocolate Forest and the first commander who is genuinely unpleasant. He was the Legion’s chemist, he dumped the Legion’s waste into the groves, and whatever he mixed into the soil is in him too.

His health bar is around a third longer than CRIMSON’s and he hits back harder, so the fight is longer in both directions — more moves needed to finish him, fewer mistakes you can afford while doing it.

The arena is the poisoned wood, which is one of the darker boards in the game. On a bright phone screen it is fine; on a dim one, turn the brightness up before you start, because reading the board fast matters more here than it did on map one.

What actually works

Chocolate Forest is where the game stops letting you win with single matches. BLIGHT’s health is long enough that a player who never chains anything will run out of moves, and the levels leading up to him are designed to make that obvious before you get there.

The single most useful habit for this map: before every swap, look at what falls into the gap. You do not need to calculate a five-move cascade. You need to notice when a swap will obviously drop a matching pair into place, and take those swaps over the ones that will not.

Striped tiles are your best friend here. A striped tile swapped into any match clears a whole row or column, which is worth several ordinary matches and costs you nothing extra — you forged it by matching four in the first place. If you have a striped tile sitting on the board and no obvious line to make, use it. Sitting on it is the same as wasting it.

What to bring

An Armor Plate is the right booster if you are struggling. It halves the damage you take for thirty seconds, which against a boss who hits harder than anything you have met so far is worth more than a heal — you get the whole fight’s worth of reduced damage instead of one bar back.

Fire Power is tempting and usually wrong here. BLIGHT’s health bar is long, but he is not a burst fight; he is a grind. Save Fire Power for a commander whose fight is short and brutal.

After him

Apple Pie Factory is next, and it is a step up again. If BLIGHT took you to your last life, spend the first few levels of map three earning it back — the game gives you an extra life every three levels you clear, and map three is where that stops being a formality.
