How to Beat GLACIER — Apple Pie Factory Boss Guide

The first commander who punishes you for going too fast. Slow down and take the good swap.

The fight

GLACIER is the eighth level of Apple Pie Factory, and she is the point where the campaign stops being a warm-up. She keeps the ovens running at a temperature that would kill an ordinary soldier, she has not left the floor in years, and her health bar is the longest thing you have faced so far.

She is also the first commander who punishes impatience specifically. Her damage output is high enough that a player taking quick, cheap swaps to keep the fight moving will lose a health bar they did not need to lose. The players who beat her comfortably are the ones who take two extra seconds before each swap.

The arena is the factory floor — bright, orange, and busy. It is the least forgiving board to read quickly in the whole campaign, which is deliberate.

What actually works

Stop taking the first available match. This is the map where the "obvious" swap — the one that completes a line right in front of you — is frequently the worst move on the board, because it clears three tiles, drops nothing useful in, and leaves the board flatter than it found it.

Instead, spend your first few moves setting up. Look for a swap that creates a four-line, take it, and hold the striped tile until it can go into a match rather than using it the moment you get it. One striped tile fired into a chain is worth four ordinary matches.

Overload Charges matter more here than anywhere before. Apple Pie Factory is the first map where a well-timed Charge — swapped into the tile type you have the most of — can take a visible bite out of a boss health bar in one move. If you see a line of five available, take it even if it costs you a move to set up.

What to bring

A Repair Kit and an Armor Plate together is the standard answer for GLACIER, and it is not overkill. Pop the Armor Plate early — the reduced damage applies for the whole thirty seconds, and the thirty seconds you want it for is the start, when you are still reading the board and she is already hitting you.

The Blue Shield is a reasonable alternative to the Armor Plate if you have one banked. It soaks incoming fire in a bubble before it lands, which is the same idea in a different shape.

After her

Danger is next, and it is the hardest map in the campaign outside Steel City. Go into it with lives in hand or do not go into it at all — replaying earlier levels for stars is a better use of an evening than losing a run three levels into map four.
